F-101: At Your Service - Meeting Township Needs (3-part series; valid for 6 credits)

This three-part course offers a comprehensive look into how townships provide services to their constituents. Earn six TGA credits for this webcast

In part one, learn more about the role, authority and legal requirements of the township board in funding and delivering services. From property taxes to fees and charges, special assessments to grants and donations, this session will help you identify a variety of funding sources, and the limitations associated with each.

In part two, examine the township board’s responsibility in assuring that the risks inherent with the services provided are properly managed. Delve into the board’s role in risk management and learn to identify and examine your townships exposure to loss.

For the final segment, learn strategies that will help you evaluate whether your township’s services are effectively serving the community and what considerations should be made today to ensure future viability.

To receive TGA credit, candidates must view all webcasts segments, complete and pass the post-webcast quiz, and complete and return a Practical Application Commitment (PAC) form (found here) to MTA.

Steve Mann is an attorney with Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, PLC. He practices in the area of municipal finance, including municipal bonds, special assessments, tax increment finance, economic development, Brownfield redevelopment, and intergovernmental transactions.

Steve currently serves his community as a trustee for Plymouth Charter Township in Wayne County and previously served a term as township supervisor.
